The City of Chesapeake Department of Emergency Management in an effort to assure readiness when responding to emergencies and major disasters, is seeking bids from private industry (companies and other businesses or organizations) who have a desire to provide goods and services in time of need for public safety and well-being of the citizens of the City of Chesapeake. The resulting contract(s) will be Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity Contracts as the City is unable to determine the exact amount of goods and or services needed. The resulting contracts will be used to help the City respond to emergencies, whether natural or man-made, as defined in the Code of Virginia, §44-146.16 and Chesapeake City Code §2-622.
Pricing for goods and services provided under the resulting contract shall only be available prior to, during, and for a reasonable amount of time after a declared emergency, as determined by the City.
The City of Chesapeake was formed in 1963 through the consolidation of the City of South Norfolk and Norfolk County. The City is comprised of 353 square miles and is located in the southeastern portion of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the Hampton Roads region. Chesapeake is bordered to the north by the Cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth, to the east by the City of Virginia Beach, to the south by Currituck and Camden Counties in North Carolina, and to the west by the City of Suffolk.
Chesapeake is the second-largest city in Virginia by land area and also ranks as the Commonwealth’s second-most populous city, with an estimated population of 255,894.
The City as part of its Emergency Planning is seeking to have suppliers for Ice and its associated refrigerated storage as needed for the City’s Points of Distribution (PODS). The city traditionally will deploy five
- PODS for the distribution of needed supplies to the citizens of the City of Chesapeake.
